hello sonoplexus

After much thought and no little
infighting we have settled on sonoplexus as the name for the new
joint label with twangCORP (who will be taking it over next
month).
It is both part of this site and can be reached on sonoplexus.org.

'the meluddites'

dylan seaton, one of our collective,
has finished an invitation from twangCORP to re-structure, re-edit
and re-sequence a CD of experimental guitar music. from the initial
involvement as 'a fresh pair of ears' it would seem that dylan's
role went from producer to creative collaborator in the space of a
few days. subsequently the scheduled 'solo' release has now been
listed as a duo, with 'the meluddites' being the working title for
this unlikely band.
quoting from the sleeve notes...
'Shared love of classic ‘50s / ’60s records (direct to 2-track tape via plate reverb chambers, valves and hand made gizmos) led a kinetic sculptor and an experimental guitarist to form the Meluddites. As a first project HDA’s ’cabine du loup’ solo guitar tapes were given to the dylophonic workshop. The deal was HDA would have no ‘musical’ input other than ‘when requested’ just as DS had no ‘artistic’ input to the ‘92 tapes; thus DS focusseed on ’abstract passages and lost sounds’ (squeaks, breath, tape-hiss, nanophonics & curious resonances).
'Keeping the evolving project entirely in two-track (”..no overdubs to be used, all sounds to be generated by the original solo guitar recordings..”) entailed radical re-assembly via an assortment of ‘concrète’ methods DS had previously used in environmental soundscapes. Curiously, this process also embraced the very slap back sounds of rockabilly and ‘verbed up surf guitar that had inspired HDA’s ‘fx-free primitivism’ back in ‘92 where ambience was a stone barn and distortion a loud and beaten up Fender amp.'
..so there you have it. release is scheduled for november through a joint twangCORP / toposonic label to be called sonoplexus. we will bring you more on the 'dylophonic workshop' in due course.
